I am on a mission to invite my fellow yoginis, creatives and visionary experts in health & wellness to break the habit of content creation and programs to deliver information and instead empower them to design transformational experiences for students and clients in their area of expertise!
Think about this:
- How do you FEEL when you are in a class and the teacher reads from the textbook?
- How do you FEEL when you are in a class and the teacher creates a dynamic applied learning experience?
That FEELING best indicates the difference between curriculum as information delivery versus a powerful learning experience.
This is the secret sauce built into a well-designed courses or programs.
And this is exactly the type of curriculum that best serves your students’ success and your biz!
As you step into creating your course or program, prepare yourself, consider the content (of course!), but also HOW you create learning experience for your students (and yourself!) Then let’s apply similar strategies to your course creation as you do for teaching and engaging students.
Because when you uplevel your curriculum design creation process, you create powerful learning experiences that you know work because you can FEEL the difference from the process (of creating it) to the product (your course or program)!
As discussed in more depth on last week’s blog, Finding Your Flow in Content Creation it’s vital to set the stage for success through mindful preparation. Get into Course Create-tress mode by creating a container (blocking off a date/time), limiting distractions (unplug!) and in whatever manner you choose, preparing & centering yourself.
Then, try one or all of these strategies to up-level your Content Creation Process:
1. Play with Pacing
There are two main strategies when it comes to pacing, either “No Limits” or “Sprints”. Before you choose a strategy notice your natural inclination. Do you tend to get stuck in one speed or the other (always sprinting, medium paced or free forming it)?
If so, try a different strategy! Don’t always move at the same speed. Try something new. Define a time and assign yourself a pacing strategy. You just might find breakthroughs in your content creation flow.
- No Limits: Give yourself permission to explore and be curious. Quite literally, play. Enter this time without a goal. Brainstorm. Aka: Draw, paint, journal, dream, speak, sing etc.
- Sprints: Limit your time. Create mini tasks and/or implement the Pomodoro technique [LINK]
2. Skillfully Strategize Support.
Brilliant visionary Course Create-tress, while you are an expert in your field, the same skills and expertise may not give you the tools you need to create coherent structure for your Course or Program Design and that is okay! Why? Because you don’t have to be an expert at everything and you can get support when/where you need it.
- Assess your skill level in creating structure and organization for your course or program.
- Ask yourself, what support do I need to be most successful?
- Invest in support if/where you need it.
3. Make Time for Mindfulness.
Mindfulness (different than Meditation!) is the ability to be present and aware of ourselves, our actions and words in order to respond without reacting. To practice mindfulness in content creation and teaching notice if/when you FEEL either:
- Effortless and easeful, energizing or inspiring. Is there any moment where you lose track of time and feel fully present?
- Heavy, over-effort-ing, struggling or stalled. Are the times you want apply to try, try, try again to the point of tears?
4. Choice Regulation.
Consciously vary your level of choice by playing with one of these strategies.
- Restrict your FOCUS. Literally, put your blinders on and narrow your focus on a specific micro goal.
- Give yourself LOTS of options to explore whatever topics you choose.
If you try one of these strategies and it’s is effective for you, hit reply and let me know!
Cheers to Up-leveling Your Content Creation Process!
